School of International Economics and Business

Introduction

The School of International Economics and Business has the following educational objectives for fostering human resources with expert qualifications in the international economics and business sector based on the creative academic spirit of Yeungnam University and the educational goal of the College of Business and Economics.

  1. 1) Foster progressive and creative human resources that will contribute to the nation's economic and trade development
  2. 2) Instill basic qualities and institutionalized knowledge that students in the College of Business and Economics should have
  3. 3) Improve abilities in foreign language and computers to meet the demands of the globalized and information era
  4. 4) Instill practical expertise that professional manpower performing duties related to international economics, international management and trade should have from an international aspect.

History

December 1969: Established as the first department of trade in the Daegu/Gyeongbuk area
December 1973: Opened masters degree program for the Department of Trade
December 1978: Opened Ph.D program for the Department of Trade
March 1997: Designated as 'key department' by Yeungnam University
March 1999: Integrated into the School of Business and economics
September 2001: Selected for 'Trade Incubator', which is a trade professional fostering program funded by the Ministry of Commerce, Industry and Energy
March 2002: Separated from the School of Business and Economics and promoted to the School of International Economics and Business
September 2007 to Current: Selected for 'Global Trade Expert Program' which is a trade professional fostering program funded by the Ministry of Commerce, Industry and Energy.
March 2011 to Current: Selected for 'Operator of FTA Practice Program' funded by the Ministry of Strategy and Finance.

Job Fields

The international economics and business field, which includes international commerce, global management, international financing and trade, has a much higher social demand compared to the limited supply of human resources. The various governmental ministries in the central level as well as the local level such as the Ministry of Education, MOTIE and MOSF are increasingly funding to develop the human resources in this field. Students who are specialized in this field can have successful careers in any sectors they like to as seen below.

Public Sector

International economics and business specialist for MOTIE, MOSF, Bank of Korea, Financial Supervisory Service, Korea EXIM Bank, KOTRA, KITA and the Korea Chamber of Commerce. Researcher for public research institutions such as KIET, KIEP, KDI, and so on.

Private Sector

Foreign investment company, domestic conglomerate, companies or overseas work at international branches, as well as international finance parts of banks, insurance and securities companies, or employment at trade companies, e-commerce or e-trade businesses. Researcher for private research institutions such as the Samsung Economic Research Institute, LG Economic Research Institute, POSCO Management Research Institute, Korea Trade Research Center, and so on.

International Organizations

International Economics and Trade specialists for International organizations such as UN, WTO, IMF, OECD, World Bank and so on

Academic sector

Professors of International Economics in domestic and international universities.

Others International organizations such as UN, WTO, IMF, OECD, or the press such as economic magazines nationals dailies, local dailies, etc.
