Department of Political Science and Diplomacy
Introduction
The Department of Political Science and Diplomacy aims to accomplish two primary goals:
- - To enhance the virtues of democratic citizenship
- - To promote leadership
The department designs curriculum focusing on the following programs.
- First, education on leadership is specialized. The department offers courses aimed at promoting leadership not only in public spheres such as politics or public organizations, but also in private sectors such as civil organizations or private corporations.
- Second, the department aims to combine theory with practice. It not only offers traditional courses focusing on various political theories, But also provides courses that encourage students to experience society and politics in the real world.
- Third, the department strongly supports student activities. In so doing, it strives to establish close linkage between these activities and students¡¯ education. Moreover, the department offers leadership colloquium for the purpose of promoting global leadership and analytical skills.
HISTORY
The Department of Political Science and Diplomacy, Yeungnam University, was first established at Daegu University in October 1947 and is one of the oldest departments. Then, Yeungnam University was established through the integration of Daegu University and Cheonggu University in 1967. At that time, the department belonged to the College of Law and Political Science, Yeungnam University. After 1987, however, the department was transferred to the College of Political Science and Public Administration. In 1971, the department was established for evening programs. The department began to offer M. A. program in 1967 and Ph. D. program in 1972. As of March 2007, 2,198 students completed B.A. degrees (including 286 from Daegu University), 106 students completed M.A. degrees (including 8 from Daegu University), and 22 students completed Ph. D. degrees. The department also offered 5 honorary Ph. D. degrees.
