Department of Korean History

Introduction

The Department of Korean History fosters human resources that have expertise in Korean history based on proper awareness of Korean history and culture.

The curriculum is made up of history by time and category in order to meet the demands for specialization. History by time includes courses in ancient history, medieval history, modern history and contemporary history, while history by category includes courses in thought history, culture history, political history, social history, women's history, etc. In addition, students are reminded of the remaining history through regular trips and on-site examinations, while they train their expert analytical abilities on Korean cultural properties.

HISTORY

Undergraduate courses were established in December 1972, Master's in November 1980 and PhD's in December 1984.
There are currently four full-time professors responsible for the different eras and they are graduating excellent students by helping the properly understand Korean society and through research and training to examine which direction our society should head to.
Graduates are continuing their research as college professors and secondary school teachers, as well as researchers at the National History Compilation Committee and museums. Furthermore, some work as public employees or in media and companies to properly diagnose the Korean society and to introduce the Korean culture to the public. There are currently 1,084 (as of 2002) graduates.

JOB FIELDS

Graduates go on to graduate school as scholars, while others find employment as middle and high school teachers, public employees and salary men at companies. Some are studying Korean history at the National History Compilation Committee, museums, libraries, Ministry of Education, compilation departments and culture research centers to introduce Korean history, while some find employment in public organizations, press and publication companies.
