Professor Lee, Seung Ho (55) of the College of Pharmacy received the academic achievement award by the Korean Society of Pharmacognosy. This was in return for his contributions to the development of the herbal medicine preparation and development of this academic field through his research on natural product extracts effective for hangover relief, whitening and treatment of atopic dermatitis for the past 20 years.
In the past five years, Professor Lee published over 60 SCI-level papers and acquired 15 patents. Among them, three resulted in technology transfers to relevant companies such as LG Household & HealthCare and Kimex. For his contributions, he was awarded the Academic Achievement Award at the 44th general meeting and academic conference of the Korean Society of Pharmacognosy held at the Seoul Center of Education and Culture on the 5th.
The Korean Society of Pharmacognosy was founded in 1969 and leads the development and globalization of new medicine made with natural products. There are currently over 1,100 members.
Professor Lee, who donated part of the cash prize as department development funds, has been working hard on standardization of herbal medicine for the past ten years.
Professor Lee said, "I worked on studies to develop new medicine made with natural products using plants and herbs growing in the Daegu and Gyeongbuk region. It is necessary to standardize these to enter the global market." He also added, "I will continue to work hard so that the Korean Traditional Medical Industry can further develop."
