Combination of academic knowledge of 'Park Chung Hee School of Policy and Saemaul' and the work capacities of 'AFoCO' is expected to result in synergy effects on fostering experts in Saemaul Undong-forestry-international development cooperation, and contributing to AFoCO.

YU (President Noh Seok-kyun) signed the MOU for exchange and cooperation with Hadisusanto Pasaribu, secretary-general of AFoCO (Asian Forest Cooperation).
AFoCO is the first international forestry organization established under the leadership of Korea in August 2012. It was founded with the goal to solve the deforestation issue resulting from various environmental factors such as climate change and forest disasters, as well as socio-economic factors such as development pressure resulting from the economical development of Asia. There are a total of 11 member countries including Korea and the ten countries of the Association of South-East Asian Nations such as Myanmar, Laos, Thailand, Cambodia, Malaysia, Indonesia, Singapore, Brunei, Vietnam and the Philippines.
The two institutes met at the YU president's reception room at 11 a.m. on the 26th and agreed to utilize the capacities of each other's institutes to foster experts and pursue projects in relevant fields such as for the planning and operation of degree programs and short-term training courses, as well as exchange of knowledge to develop and improve capacity strengthening programs in the forestry and Saemaul Undong fields.
YU President Noh Seok-kyun, College of Education Dean Kim Jin-sam, Park Chung Hee School of Policy and Saemaul Dean Park Seung-woo, Vice-dean Han Dong-geun, Vice-dean Kim Gi-soo, and AFoCO Secretary-general Hadisusanto Pasaribu, Vice secretary-general Park Jong-ho, Planning and HR Team Director Kim Gyeong-soo, Overseas Cooperation Team Director Lee Young-joo, Senior PR Cooperation Officer Htain Lin, and Project Manager Choi Sung-ho attended this event.
At this ceremony, YU President Noh Seok-kyun stated, "By combining the academic knowledge of the Park Chung Hee School of Policy and Saemaul and the work capacities of ASEAN, it will create various synergy effects for the project including the fostering of experts in Saemaul Undong, forestry and international development cooperation."
It is expected that this MOU will contribute in the efficient pursuance of various projects of AFoCO such as restoring the forest ecology, increasing the income and improving the capacities of residents of forest areas in emerging countries, prevention of deforestation and response to climate change, and preservation of forest bio-diversity.
