Introduction
Early childhood education is a field that has had the fastest development and highest demand for manpower in both social and academic sectors. During this period in which early childhood education is being promoted by the government, preparing outstanding early childhood educators who will determine the quality of education has become particularly urgent. In order to meet these demands, the Department of Early Childhood Education was approved by the Ministry of Education and Human Resources in 2001 and established in the same year. Through in-depth theoretical exploration and through on-site work experience, students will gain knowledge of the development characteristics of young children and of their education. We prepare outstanding early childhood educators to provide the professional manpower in this field. In this way, these educators can contribute to the development of the local early childhood education sector.
History
The Department of Child Studies was approved in October 1987. Male students were eligible to enroll when the department became co-ed in March 1993. In addition, masters degree courses were offered. From March 1994, a new curriculum was drawn up and four major subjects commenced (Child Development, Child Education, Child Disabilities, and Child Welfare) to accommodate various career paths and to respond effectively to social needs.
In August 2001, we received approval from the Ministry of Education and Human Resources to establish the Department of Early Childhood Education and our first students were accepted in 2002. Our objective was to prepare a leading professional workforce in the childhood education sector and other sectors related to child education by focusing on effective and practical first hand experience and in-depth theoretical research of childhood education.
Job Prospects
Students can acquire kindergarten level 2 licenses to work as teachers, principals or commissioners for kindergartens or acquire a welfare educator level 2 license to work as teachers or administrators at welfare institutions. There are also employment opportunities as teachers and administrators in special education institutes, as administrators in specialized academies (such as for Art and English), and as researchers for education companies and those which manufacture goods for children.
