In response to the demands for internationalization and globalization, this department aims to develop international manpower, and to contribute to an expected multinational interest between Korea and Japan, by means of expanding the number of students possessing a systematic and integrated understanding of Japanese language and literature.
In addition, the educational objective of our department is not only to foster academic experts who have international knowledge and perception, but also to train people with diverse values, who are going to be required both domestically and internationally in the global era of the 21st century.
- Advantageous minor or double major
There is no doubt that Japan and Korea have been mutually related and co-adapted historically, culturally and socially. Therefore, our students can be encouraged to choose the minor or double major in Korean Studies, in order to take up opportunities to compare the two languages, literatures, histories and cultures. In addition, in order to have various further opportunities to study, they may also be encouraged to select another major, such as Political Science, Public Administration, Economics and Finance, Management, International Economics and Business, while majoring in our program.
- Active Overseas Exchange
Every year, several students will have opportunities to study abroad - especially in our affiliated schools, such as Nara University and Oita University, with scholarship offered by MEXT (Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science &Technology - Japan). In addition, a lot of students will go abroad as exchange students of our other sister colleges (there are more than 20 sister Universities including Shizuoka, Oita, Hiroshima, and Gunma University) for cultural and language courses.
When examining our former graduates students and their current activities, over 100 alumni work as Japanese teachers in high school, and others have been engaged as Japanese instructors in academies and companies, moreover, some alumni work as researchers in industrial research centers, some work as translators for the military and some serve with large conglomerates and public institutions. Certifications from this department, in short, will guarantee diverse employment opportunities, especially as secondary school teachers, interpreter, translators, tour guides, and so forth.
