A bold attempt at greater synergy effects by tying together IT, automobile and display industries is unfolding.
At 4pm on the 4th, the 'Daegu-Gyeongsangbukdo LED-IT Fusion Industry Development Vision Proclamation Ceremony' was held at the Daegu Inter-Burgo Hotel hosted by Yeungnam University (president Hyo-soo Lee) and sponsored by MEST, Gyeongsangbukdo and Daegu city.
Assemblywoman Geun-hye Park and sssemblyman Gyeong-hwan Choi made a congratulatory speech and Lee Yoon-ho, minister of MEST, gave the keynote address. Professor Ja-soon Jang of Yeungnam University followed up with a speech on the 'Daegu-Gyeongsangbukdo LED Fusion Industry Development Strategy'.
The 'LED-IT Fusion Technology Research Center', which will lead the future of Daegu and Gyeongsangbukdo, will be located at Yeungnam University. Construction of the center is expected to be completed by 2018 costing 43 billion won near the Gyeongbuk Techno Park. This will be a local hub for training human resources for next generation LED-IT fusion technology R&D. In addition, various business plans are also being pursued in order to create more demand for LED.
Meanwhile, MEST announced that it will open the doors of 4 LED fusion technology support centers at Yeungnam University, Gwangju KOPTI, Gyeonggi Gwanggyo Korea Advanced Nano Fab Center and Chonbuk University, in order to develop LED fusion technologies and foster human resources. For this, 76.5 billion won (national funds, provincial funds, private funds included) will be invested in the 4 centers by 2013.
